Resources - July 2014- present
It became evident that the Orientation session provided to students was provided too early, as students were not ready to internalise the information provided. It was decided that an online BB Collaborate session be offered to students about 3 – 4 weeks into the teaching period, when they were more settled and ready to take on board the information provided. The session was recorded so that students had access to the material if they were not available during the session and so that they could refer to what had been discussed and demonstrated.
Additional support resources were provided to assist students’ understanding of the GLOs. These included additional videos and text based documents explaining the GLOs. A more explicit explanation of the Course Learning Outcomes were developed to assist students’ understanding of these, so that they would be better equipped to reflect on these.
The design on the online site was restructured. The site was moved from an external hosting platform to sit within the University’s LMS, and the site structure followed the structure of the Portfolio that the students developed. The information presented was sorted based on the portfolio template pages provided to the students. This helped students to find resources required to complete the different sections of the assessment item.

Finally, a set of moderated Discussion Threads were established. These Discussion Forum provided prompted guidance to students. Each Thread in the Discussion Forum has a different focus. Threads included:
- Reflective Writing and Practice
- Portfolio Thinking
- Evidencing GLOs
- Using the Portfolio Tool.
The resources originally made available to students were recycled, however the order in which they were presented was changed. The unit site was reorganised so that the modules within the LMS followed the structure of the portfolio template. It was considered that this was a more useful and appropriate manner to present the resources to students.
The Unit Chair created a sample portfolio to provide students with an idea of the level of work that was required. Link to Unit Chair’s sample portfolio
In the future, exemplar student portfolios will also be provided as examples of the work that can be presented.
